NY, home to the cream cheese bagel and Lady Liberty – but most importantly the Big Apple is famous as a hot bed of designer talent and a city of style setters.
We take a look at some of the key trends from the catwalk and plan our new look for this coming Autumn.
THE FLARE
This particular trouser shape has been having a renaissance for a few seasons now, but this winter it’s all about the kick flare.
ANKLE CROP
The culotte has been replaced by the ankle grazer trouser. Cropped is the length of choice even in the colder months.
A WHITER SHADE OF WHITE
We’re seeing a palette of winter white, ivory and cream; from the modern white shirt to a luxe white trouser, make it a head-to-toe white out.
COLD SHOULDER
Fashions go off-shoulder so bare some sexy skin and work the drop shoulder trend.
SPORTY
The sports luxe look is still persisting on the catwalks. Look out for pieces that are both comfortable and cool.
THE ROLL-NECK
The biggest story for next season? The roll neck. The funnel neck. The polo neck. The turtle neck. This old classic has just become the new must-have monopolising the catwalks.
SEXY GOTH
Dark and fierce there is black lace, leather, metal and punk boots. Wang went all-black and gave us a glimpse of grunge where Thom Browne had a flavour of drama with his take on mourning clothes.
SHOW SOME LEG
Provocative, fun and flirty, the thigh high slit gives a sexy glimpse of leg. Dresses and skirts showed off slits and splits – I guess the only question, how high will you dare?
TWEED
More usually found on a country gent, this tweed has gone urban. Lapel trims, fur collars and statement details the look is altogether more grown up with a twist of cool.
VICTORIANA
This trend takes its inspiration from the Victorian era. With high neck ruffles and leg of mutton sleeves, the look is both prim and modern.
FLUFF
Fashion gets fluffy, fuzzy and feathery on the catwalk. We saw tons of texture at Alice & Olivia, Anna Sui and J Crew to name a few.
FRINGING
Fashion has a fringe moment. Hemlines and trims dance and sway with tassels – it’s playful and flirty, so time to get your swing on.
FUR
Fur is a winter staple and right now looks set to be bigger than ever with oversized coats, faux stoles and shearling trims. Weather practical and ever chic, faux fur gets a big thumbs up.
THE BOMBER
Next season we’ll be coveting the bomber jacket, the cover up of choice – well so say those in the know. Choose from high-shine, fur-trimmed and quilted.
BUM BAG
Need I say more… who saw this coming then?
CAPED CRUSADER
The smart girls cover up of choice. Ultra wearable, capes, cloaks and ponchos were seen at Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lapore, Milly and Michael Kors.
MIDRIFF BARING
Crops are seeing in another winter but this time they are layered up. Pair a shirt or tee under a crop to bring this trend into AW15. Fancy showing some midriff? High waists and a narrow reveal of skin – less is most definitely more.
BUTTON UP
Buttons go big on the catwalk. Channel Victoria Beckham and Clavin Klein and embrace oversize haberdashery.
50 SHADES OF RED
Okay so red isn’t exactly headline news for the winter season, but come AW15 we will see every shade, tone and palette of red. Give your winter wardrobe a pop of colour.
BOOTED UP
The boot goes mid calf aka Victoria Beckham. We love this new elegant option.
RETRO
The 70’s have been making a reappearance and are now looking stronger than ever. Bring out your inner hippy and look out for suede, roll necks, 70’s prints and square sunglasses.
LONG LINE
Tops are layered long over loose trousers and maxi skirts. Lengthen your body-line and experiment with your proportions.
BELTED
Cinch the waist. Wide belts are back adding to the 70’s vibe and balancing loose silhouettes.
EXPOSED
The naked back will play a major part in autumn winter’s look. Whilst layers are long, sleeves are voluminous and necks are high, we spotted cut outs and bare backs galore – revealing yet undeniably sexy.
